Investigations have established that the depletion of fish in lake Victoria is caused by use of fishing gears which does not meet the threshold.It has also been established that some fishermen use toxic poison to catch fish hence causes death of more fish in the lake.
These comes after misunderstanding broke into one of the beach management unit(bmu) in kisumu known as kichijio baech.The secretary of the bmu mr. Michal Adera claimed that his life was in danger after he revealed the secrets that were going on in the lake.
Mr.Adera said that the fishing gears that are being used in the lake are not the recommended ones yet the bmu chairman and some officers from the fisheries department are in a cartel that they do not want these to be revealed.H e added that the beaches are more than the number registered.He said that the registered number of beaches is 288 while the beaches are more than the number mentioned.
Mr.Michal Opiyo who is the kichijio beach chairman refused to give his comment while contacted and even ran a way from the questions he was being asked.
According to the regional director of fisheries Madam Christine Akoth, said she was still new in the office that she could not know the operations of the beaches and she was even prevented from giving his side by some of her junior officers who are said to be some of the cartels who collects funds from the bmu chairmen.
Madam Christine farther confirmed that the number of beaches in the all region are more than 300 the sentiment which denied by his junior officers who said there were only 288 beaches in the region.
According to some of the fishermen,they said that the officers from fisheries department normally collude with the bmu chairmen and collects funds from illegal beaches that are not registered.
