Many agree that Hon. Peter Kenneth’s candidature draws admiration, partly because of spirited campaigns he has mounted and even more, the concrete plans outlined in his manifesto that seem practicable and coherent to the needs of Nairobi residents.
An outstanding promise that Hon. Kenneth has made it clear he’s determined to see implemented is the devolution of county services to the constituency and even ward levels.
Part of his manifesto outlines;
*Devolve critical decision making including identification of priorities and allocation to the constituency levels.
*Empower and equip each constituency with a fully operational county office that will be responsible for revenue collection and service delivery.
*Implement a public service chapter that will commit the county government to service level standards in all critical functions including licensing and approvals.
*Automate and consolidate the licensing approval systems to do away with multiple and unnecessary licences; providing certainity to traders and investors……
What does this mean to a common Nairobian?
What should they expect in a PK led government?
*Enhanced public participation in development projects and decisions.
Will further help Nairobians to prioritize their top specific needs as per their areas of residents.
* Reduce the never ending beeline at City Hall as the county constituency offices will serve the needs of their constituents.
This will also go a long way in eliminating the broker cartels and intermediaries who has turned Nairobians to cash cows, taking advantage of their want of services.
*More enhanced accountability as the constituency and ward managers will have to account to their constituents.
The accountability emanating from the ward and constituency levels will be reflected at the Headquarters.
Reduction in the numerous licensing burdens imposed on Nairobians and also the procedures.
This will spur more business innovations and allow more investors to troop in given that the market will be friendly to them.
