A Non Governmental body, The Universities and colleges Students Peace Association of Kenya (UCSPAK) has stepped up activities and social events aimed at fostering peaceful coexistence before, during and after the forthcoming general election.
Recognizing the special role of youths and learners in tertiary institutions to the stability of the nation especially as the lead ambassadors of virtuous well-being, UCSPAK has begun, in top gear, the drive by targeting and seeking the active involvement of the aforementioned category of Kenyans.
The University of Nairobi, previously known for violent student elections seems to be on a new streak of life with the positive reception its students gave to this initiative.
Having come out to the sensitization event at its Chiromo and Parklands campuses , the students vowed and pledged to be ambassadors of peace, confessing that they’d never be used to fan violence again as has unfortunately been in the dark past. This could be attributed to the informative sessions they had with the UCSPAK organization; a reminder of their role in nation building, elections and nationhood in general.
As the peace and voter education drives intensify countrywide in a bid to reach all corners of the country in this noble course, hopes are high and positive that the country’s future leaders, the youth, will never go back on the gains they’ve made to their professional and social lives by being involved in violence but rather take up the positive challenge of spearheading peace and nationhood.
