Majority of CORD supporters nation wide claim that Sen. Wetangula is unfit to carry the flag of CORD in the presidential contest.
I concur with them based on several factors diminishing him, proving that he might be the biggest political mistake CORD could ever make.
To begin with, his party Ford Kenya has been reduced to a village party operating in Bungoma county alone with only Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale an outsider. John Munyes and other non luhyas exit in Ford Kenya has left it a wounded toothless dog. Wetangula’s market in Western Kenya alone has no appealing demand because it’s supply/sell to common mwananchi is stagnant. Wetangula holds party rallies and ground marketing on television only, and this comes only when other non luhya parties have intruded his kingdom meaning he reacts to their moves to protect his “territory”. The biggest agenda he tells his people is his right to be the CORD flag bearer. This brings out his opportunist nature in the CORD coalition.
Compared to Mutula’s Chap Chap just one month old and has had one successful rally, Ford Kenya has never held any rally outside Western province for national support…then by which logic can one become a national flagbearer!
Majorly I see it as a joke when he insists “tutamenyana huko na Rao na Kalonzo and I will be the flagbearer.” First, of recent he has been very silent and inactive in CORD matters leading to him being outshined by someone like Gov. Hassan Joho. When a politician who is a key figure to a coalition goes silent, it’s thorny a feeling in the supporters hearts and deteriorates thier confidence in him.
Lastly, Wetangula’s evasion of Mulembe Consciousness meeting held at Atwoli’s home has led to defection of his luhya followers due to the fact that he is an individualist who has nothing for the community but wants everything for himself.
CORD should settle on anyone, but not Wetangula.
